New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu today favoured construction of Sethu Samudram Project without hurting sentiments of people and blamed the Congress for raking up the issue.

Mr Naidu who was talking to newspersons here said sentiments of the people should be respected and the Congress like always had bungled on this issue too. They had done the same bungling on the Ayodhya issue and now want to repeat it in Ramsethu issue also, he said.

Answering questions on the third front rechristened as the United National Progressive Alliance, Mr Naidu said it was a new political set up and the differences are bound to persist in an alliance like this having a number of political parties. The country required an alternative economic policy to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor at a time when the country was witnessing fast paced growth in vital sectors of the economy.

When questions were posed about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Chief J Jayalalitha, Mr Naidu asked the reporters not to bring in the political personalities into the picture. ''We are all in touch with one another and are united on the issue of alternate economic policy,'' he added.

He said he would be back in Delhi in the near future and work out the programme, organisation and agenda for the UNPA.
