Puducherry, Sep 26 (UNI) Puducherry has the potential to attract more overseas investments in tourism and textiles, Singapore Minister of State for Trade and Industries S Eswaran said today.
Mr Eswaran, who is leading a delegation, met Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy and held discussions on various proposals.
Later, talking to newspersons, he said the entrepreneurs from Singapore had evinced interest to invest in Fashon City, coming up here.
Mr Rangasamy said he had appraised the delegation that the Union Territory was encouraging only non-polluting industries.
The Singapore Minister had invited me to Singapore to experience the facilities the Singapore government provides to the entrepreneurs, he said.
Mr Rangasamy said a team from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will visit Karaikal region tomorrow to inspect and grant approval to new engineering college set up there.
He said the administration was taking steps to start a MEd course in BEd college in Karaikal shortly. A PG centre of the Pondicherry University would start functioning in Karaikal from October 10.
On setting up a state-owned Cable TV Corporation, the Chief Minister said it would be set up after the state-owned Cable TV Corporation in Tamil Nadu becomes operational and studying the function of it.
To a question, he said the state's revenue remained the same even after the implementation of VAT.
In case of any deficit, the administration would seek financial assistance from the Centre, he added.
