Jaya Jaitley asks Govt to frame guidelines on sting operations
New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Former Samata party president Jaya Jaitley has urged the Government to frame proper guidelines on sting operations for bringing transparency in media coverage.
Addressing newspersons here today, Mrs Jaitley said guidelines should be framed after having due consultations with various media associations such as the Press Council of India and Editors Guild of India.
She said the government should refrain from using Live India TV Channel's Uma Khurana sting operation as an excuse for bringing the Broadcasting Bill to gag the media.
She accused the Government of adopting double standards in giving judgement since in the case of the Tehelka sting operation, the media was not victimised, rather, those people prospered whereas Live India channel was being banned from transmission for a month.
