Lucknow, Sep 26 (UNI) Incessant downpour continued to lash parts of Uttar Pradesh for the second consecutive day today.
So far, UP had been in the jaws of wilting heat and dreaded humid weather.
Heavy clouds accompanied by high velocity winds has brought coolness to the state, dipping mercury level by several degrees and bringing UPites tremendous relief from hot and humid weather.
The never stopping showers since Monday morning have also given some respite to Lucknowites, with glimpses of winter round the corner.
In the last 24 hrs, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Bareilly, Kanpur, Moradabad, Faizabad and Lucknow divisions received continuous downpour accompanied by cool winds.
Uska Bazar was the wettest recording 20 cm rainfall, followed by Gorakhpur 15, Deoria 12, Basti 7 and Moradabad 5.
The farmers have heaved a sigh of relief to see the Rain god ''shower'' blessings,'' which would prove to be a panacea for the standing crops.
According to agriculture scientists, major portion of the paddy crop had already been damaged due to the drought. Therefore, the last phase of this monsoon rainfall has come as a boon to the standing paddy.
Besides, the showers would also be beneficial for the sugarcane and seasonal vegetables crops.
Meanwhile, the weathermen have forecast heavy rainfall in the Lucknow, Faizabad, Meerut, Bareilly and Gorakhpur divisions and slight drizzle across UP in the next 24 hrs.
