Vadodara, Sep 26 (UNI) In a major embarrassment to Gujarat government, a ruling BJP legislator today rewarded Pathan brothers -- Irfan and Yusuf -- with a cash prize of Rs 1,11,111 for doing Vadodara proud by their remarkable performance in the just-concluded Twenty20 World Cup final.
BJP MLA Upendrasinh Gohil, who represents the Savli constituency, today handed over the cheque for Rs 1,11,111 to Mehmoodkhan Pathan, the father of the duo, at their Haji Park society residence here.
Mr Gohil, who was all praise for the Pathan brothers for making Vadodara proud, said the success achieved by the brothers duo in the Twenty20 World Cup would certainly inspire the youngsters. The boys deserve rewards and encouragement from all quarters, he added.
While receiving the cheque, Mehmoodkhan said Mr Gohil had really shown a great courage to reward his sons at a time when Gujarat government was keeping mum and had not even sent a congratulatory message to him and his family as a matter of courtesy.
The Modi government has drawn a flak from Opposition Congress for not announcing any reward to the two cricket stars from the state, while other state governments had made several announcements in favour of their boys.
The city Congress has decided to welcome the duo, who are expected to reach Vadodara airport from Mumbai this evening.
Meanwhile, Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) has also announced a reward of Rs 11 lakh each to the two Pathans in recognition of their brilliant performance in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup.
