Gang involved in rape, murder held

Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, Sep 26 (UNI) Police achieved a major breakthrough in several clueless rape and murder cases reported at Sathur area in the Virudhunagar District during the recent years when they arrested a gang of four persons stated to be involved in several cases, today.

Police said on a tip off, a special police team nabbed Subburaj, a tea stall owner and three of his associates Marimuthu, Balamurugan and Rajkumar, in connection with the recent recovery of the body of a married woman S Jayalakshmi at Irukkankudi Vaipparu forest area.

During interrogation, the culprits revealed that they were involved in the gang rape and murder of Jayalakshmi, police said.

They admitted that they forcibly took her into a nearby forest area when she was going alone to the famous Mariyamman Temple at Irukkankudi on September 14.

Police also suspect that gang might have been involved in several gang rapes and murder cases during the past couple of years in Sathur area.
