Ex-MLA among 2 held for burning Mayawati in effigy
Lucknow, Sep 26 (UNI) Two persons, including a former Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Azim, were today arrested in Ferozabad city for burning Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in effigy and disturbing peace.
During the statewide demonstrations by the principal opposition SP yesterday to protest the ''anti-people'' and ''undemocratic'' policies of the ruling Mayawati-led BSP government, a mob led by party leaders ranted stentorian anti-state government slogans and set ablaze the effigy of UP CM.
Later, cases were registered against Azim and several SP activists at Maitsena police station, police said.
Azim and SP leader Mukesh Balmiki were nabbed this morning from Ramgarh and Uttari Thana areas respectively, while a hunt for others was on.
