Cliffton shines for Dempo

Panaji, Sep 26 (UNI) Four goals, including a hat-trick by Cliffton Gonsalves, guided Formidable Dempo Sports Club to score an emphatic 5-0 victory over Mormugo Port Trust (MPT) today and maintain their position at the top the table in the Goa Professional football league championship at Tilak ground, Vasco da Gama.

Dempo, who had upper hand right from the ward go, were leading by two goals at the breather. The goals were scored by Cliffton Gonsalves in the 17th minute and Pio Rodrigues in the 44th minute.

Dempo continued to dominate in the second half scoring three more goals through Cliffton in the second half to score a comfortable 5-0 margin.

With this win, Dempo topped the table with 19 points with six wins and a draw from eight outings. Salgaocar also have 19 points, but on better goal difference Dempo led the table.

In another match played at Nehru stadium Fatorda, Churchill Brothers edged out Ruia sporting by a solitary goal.

The all important goal for Churchill Brothers came in the 86th minute through Odafe Okolie, whose header off a cross from Mbanyan found the net.

Churchill, with this win, came on par with Sporting club de Goa with 17 points.
