New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) With 40 lakh people dying of heart diseases every year, the Heart Care Foundation is organising a 'Simplicity Walk' this Sunday on 'World Heart Day' with the 'Chak De India' starcast participating in it.
The September 30 'walk', being organised to promote 'walking for a healthy heart', was a bid to inculcate in people the habit of walking and living a healthy life, said Heart Care Foundation of India president Dr K K Agarwal.
''Our objective is to drive home awareness on heart diseases and measures to prevent them, where the focus is on prevention rather than cure.'' Walking is a natural bypass, he added.
Eminent cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan said India is heading towards becoming the heart disease capital of the world but through walking this can be prevented.
''Eating wisely, exercising and de-stressing oneself can easily prevent any heart trouble from reaching us. And walking encapsulates the benefits of all these.'' The 'Simplicity Walk' is a reminder that sports and fitness helps. Making walking a part of everyday life would save us from visiting a doctor, he added.
Philips Director Anjas Bose said the company's philosophy of 'delivering simplicity' was based of the premise of 'care', which walking does to the heart and health of a person.
''The focus of the walkathon is on 'wellness' and 'keeping healthy' and Philips is proud to be associated with the same philosophy.'' Chak De 'star' Vidya Malvade (captain), who is also a 'yoga' expert, said, ''Listen to your heart, walk.'' Chipping in, her collegue Vidya Shukla (rebel in the film) said, ''Lets pick a sport, its never too late. Lets run.'' Talking about the film, Chitrashi Rawat (the Haryanvi brat of 'Chak De India') said it was a matter of pride for all of us that the movie gave a fillip to health consciousness in the country through promotion of sports.
''It makes us proud that our film has helped inspire several to become healthy and fit.'' The walk would be held on September 30 at Ansal Plaza in South Extension at 0800 hrs.
