New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI) Asia Pacific Commonwealth Parliamentary Union's next meeting would be held in Bihar in November 2008, state Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhury said today.
Mr Chowdhury said the decision to hold the first such Conference in Bihar was held at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union meet yesterday.
''This is the first opportunity for Bihar to hold the conference in which assembly speakers of Asia Pacific region would participate,'' he said. Though Uttar Pradesh had also proposed to hold such conference, Bihar was given the opportunity to host it.
Many politicians from other states opposed the proposal on the ground that Bihar lacked facilities, so the conference not be held there, but Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee refused to conceed to their objection and decided that Bihar would host the conference, he informed.
