BEST collects Rs 9.23 lakh as fine in July-Aug
Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has collected a fine of Rs 9,23,751.50 from passengers travelling without a valid ticket or over travelling during the period of July-August.
As many as 21,736 commuters were caught during a special drive conducted by the BEST authorities.
BEST has appealed to passengers to purchase proper ticket so as to avoid financial loss or embarrassment in front of co-passengers.
The act of travelling without valid ticket is punishable with one month's imprisonment or fine upto Rs 200 or both under section 460 (H) of the BMC Act 1888, if passenger refuses to pay the bus fare, along with ten times the amount of the fare as penalty.
