Chennai, Sept 25 (UNI) The BJP's Tamil Nadu unit today declared a three-day mourning following the death of former party President K Jana Krishnamurthy here this morning.
Party spokesman S N Balaji said the party flag would fly half mast and all party programmes have been either cancelled or postponed as a mark of respect to the late leader.
He said today's agitation led by party state unit President L Ganesan against the attack on party office by the members of ruling DMK, has been postponed.
Mr Balaji said besides party President Rajnath Singh, senior leaders including former Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi are expected to arrive here tomorrow to pay their respects to Mr Krishnamurthy.
Meanwhile, party leaders and general public paid their homage to the body of Mr Krishnamurthy, kept at his Kilpauk residence. The cremation would take place at 1100 hrs tomorrow.
Pointing out that Mr Krishnamurthy became active in politics to fill the void created by the murder of senior leader Deendayal Upadhyaya, Mr Ganesan, in his condolence message, said that it was a rare coincidence that the BJP leader died on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Upadhyaya.
Former Union Minister and senior leader Su Thirunavukarasu, in his message, expressed shock and grief over the death of Mr Krishnamurthy. He was known for his simpliticity in public life, spread over more than six decades.
