Shillong-Dhaka bus service soon : Ramesh

Shillong, Sep 25 (UNI) India and Bangladesh have agreed to open another road link between Shillong-Dhaka to improve trade relation between the two neighbouring countries, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said today.

'' Bangladesh has given us the green signal to start the Shillong-Dhaka bus service, '' Mr Ramesh told reporters here.

The bus service would start in 2008 and the route would be Jowai-Amlarem and Dawki, he said.

Mr Ramesh also announced an additional Rs ten crore to enhance the carrying capacity of a bridge over river Umngot from the existing 12 ton to 30 ton to facilitate a proposed bus service between Meghalaya capital Shillong and Sylhet in Bangladesh.

Earlier, the Meghalaya Government had requested the Centre for financial assistance and to facilitate setting up of a Bangladesh Visa issuing office at Shillong for implement bus service.
