Punjab Govt bans hindi book of Sant Panapdas
Chandigarh, Sep 25 (UNI) The Punjab Government has banned the Hindi book "Shri Guru Granth Sahib' Sant Panapdas ji ki Wani" as it contains objectionable material which will promote resentment amongst the sikh community and outrage its religious feeling.
The book, written by Sant Panapdas ji of District Bijnaur in Uttar Pradesh, is defamatory to Sikh religion, a spokesman of the Punjab Home Affairs Department said.
After carefully going through the book, the Punjab Government is of the opinion that the matter in the book hurts the religious feelings of sikh community and also promotes enmity between different groups of society on the grounds of religion, which is an offence under sections 501, 153-A and 205-A of the Indian Penal Code, he said.
The spokesman said the Government, exercising powers conferred by Sub-Section (i) of Section 95 of the code of criminal procedure, 1973, has banned the circulation, sale and possession of the book and its translation in any language and ordered forefeiture of its reprints in the state.
