Puducherry, Sep 25 (UNI) PMK Parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramadass today urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to run the Jayaprakash Cooperative spinning mill in Karaikal.

In a statement here, he said the future of 400-odd workers in the mill was dark as the mill was not functioning for the last one week.

Sating that the Managing Director and the Manager of the mill had gone on leave, he said though Rs 36 crore had been infused for running the mill in the last 12 years, it was incurring losses every year due to maladministration.

The case of all the five textile mills here were also the same, he pointed out.

There was no major workers stir in the Jayaprakash mill, he said and added that the administration should appoint qualified persons in textile sector to manage the mill and an experienced Accounts Officer appointed to handle cash transactions.

He also suggested that the administration could acquire 200 acres of land in the region and culivate cotton there with the assistance of the experts in the agricultural college there.

A monitoring committee to look into all aspects of the mill should be constituted, if the government intends to run the mill in profit, he added.
