Ahmedabad, Sep 25 (UNI) The situation in Samsher Baug locality of the communally sensitive Gomtipur area of the city was limping back to normal, where two groups of different communities indulged in rioting during celebration of Indian's victory in Twenty20 Cricket World Cup final late last night.
According to police sources, at least 11 persons, including five policemen, suffered injuries in the clashes. Trouble started when the celebration of one community was objected to by a group of another community, which soon resulted in stone pelting.
However, a police party soon reached the spot and fired 14 rounds and several teargas shells to quell rioters. Police could not confirm of any injuries in the firing.
Though the situation was brought under control after dispersal of the rioters, patrolling had been intensified in Gomtipur and adjoining sensitive areas, the sources added.
