Lucknow, Sep 25 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police has busted an idol smuggling syndicate in Azamgarh district and arrested three persons possessing an ancient gold plated metal idol of Lord Krishna, worth over Rs 16 lakh in the international market.
The booty was estimated to be of several crores of rupees in terms of archaeological value.
On being tipped-off about the presence of some notorious idol smugglers at Harbanshpur locality, a raid was conducted at a house near Purani Pulia yesterday night.
Amirul, Nozil and Rohidul of district Murshidabad, Bengal, were nabbed, besides the recovery of one kg and 6.5 gm Lord Krishna idol, police said today.
Meanwhile, the accused had been sent to jail.
