Ranchi, Sep 25 (UNI) Anguish caused by burning of effigy of their son and ''so called'' cricket lovers' ire expressed following the World Cup debacle in West Indies is yet to be forgotten by India's Twenty 20 Captain Mahindra Singh Dhoni's parents.
Last night, with hundreds of people going into delirium shouting only ''Dhoni, Dhoni'' in front of their favourite local lad Mahi's house at Mecon Colony here, his ''grief-stricken'' parents--Pan Singh and Devki Devi--refused to come out of residence for they were yet to come to terms to the ''unexpected'' public rage shown to their son after the debacle in West Indies.
No sooner had Paksitan scintillating batsman Misbah tried in vain to scoop the ball past fielder Sreesanth who took the catch ensuring Indian win by five runs, than literally whole Ranchi erupted into joy and took to streets braving the inclement weather.
Photo journalists and electronic media who had been waiting late into last night for a byte were shown a soft corner either.
In sharp contrast to outside celebration marked by processions and bursting of fire crackers in Jharkhand, the Twenty20 captain's family members preferred to remain indoors.
After the team India's poor exit from World Cup in West Indies and particularly Dhoni's poor perormance as well, people here vandalised his under-constrction ''dream house'' at Harmu Colony, the land for which was a gift from the then Arjun Munda-led NDA government after his outstanding feat in Pakistan with bat.
People even burnt effigy of Dhoni that triggered a strong emotional reaction from his mother who only said ''people do not know enjoy sport with sportsman's spirit''.
Devki Devi had then said the same people who were all praise for her son till the other day did not spare him just for one bad performance. .
Dhoni's dream house which was under construction ran into more controversy as residents of the Harmu colony moved court protesting against his plan to have a swimming pool. The residents feared that with deep boring required for the swimming pool, the water level in the area would go further down causing immeasurable woes to them.
Whatsoever the scene at Dhoni's house, people who have ''short memory'' have been bursting crackers to celebrate the win.
Yesterday, Dhoni fans were performing pujas at temples and praying at mosques throughout the day for his success.
Chief Minister Madhu Koda, now in New Delhi, congratulated the Indian Captain on his success saying he not only brought laurels to the country but also to his home state Jharkhand.
Earlier, last month Mr Koda had announced that he will give Dhoni a ''surprise gift'' if his team won this T20 World cup.
Mr Koda said the state government would organise a special state function at historic Morabadi ground here to honour Mahi.
