CJI case; CPJ condemns court ruling against scribes
New York, Sep 25 (UNI) The Committee to Protect Journalists has expressed concern on the Delhi High Court's verdict sentencing four journalists to prison on contempt charges stemming from a series of articles and a political cartoon accusing a former Chief Justice of India of ''official misconduct''.
The journalists are out on bail and plan to appeal in the Supreme Court.
''The Delhi High Court in this case does not appear to have considered truth as a defense and if an appeal goes ahead, we hope the Supreme Court will address this central issue and overturn the convictions of the four journalists, '' the CPJ said.
The CPJ is a New York-based independent and non-profit organisation that works to safeguard press freedom across the world.
