Bangalore, Sep 24: Boisterous celebrations broke out in the city even as fans burst crackers to celebrate the historical win of Team India in the final against arch rivals Pakistan in the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup in Johannesburg today.
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced a Rs five lakh cash reward each to Team India opener Robin Uthappa for his fine performance and bowling coach B K Venkatesh Prasad for doing a fine job in training the fast bowlers.
''I compliment the bold Indian team that tamed strong teams and came out victorious. I am happy both Robin and Venky did remarkably well and contributed handsomely to the Indian victory,'' Mr Kumaraswamy said in his message.
Cricket fans came out on the roads and burst crackers, besides exchanging greetings and distributing sweets. The city roads which wore a deserted look during the three hour humdinger, burst into celebrations minutes after the Team India's thrilling five run victory.
Fans, who had gathered in front of Uthappa's residence since afternoon, witnessed the match on a big screen. Beating drums, they broke into wild celebrations once India won the match Celebrations were reported from different parts of the state.
