Mysore, Sep 24: Two elephant calves were detained by the residents of Chikkhejanaru and Mudaganur villages in protest against the Forest department officials not responding to their grievances of elephants straying into their villages and damaging farm land.
Forest officials here told the source that when a herd of elephants were crossing the villages last evening, the villagers tried to chase them into the forest. However, the two calves got trapped in the paddy field and the villagers fettered it.
On recioing the information, the forest officials yesterday asked the villagers to immediately release the pachyderms. though, the villagers initially refused to do so, but later relented after the officials gave an assurance that they would take necssary action.
