Pithoragarh, Sep 24 (UNI) Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Uttarakhand has beefed up security along the 142-km-long border area sharing with Nepal as a precautionary measure due to political upheaval in the Himalayan country.

''Taking no chance, the force would also take up security measures through rafting in Kali river after the water level recedes,'' said SSB Commandant Govind Singh Samant here today.

Commandant Samant told UNI that SSB had already set up 18 additional Police Outposts and jawans were instructed to remain vigilant.

Commandant Samant said there were five bridges between Kalapani and Baltari above Kali river used to cross the border. Besides, he said, many illegal rope ways were being used by the local people from both the sides of the border.

Expressing his apprehension that those rope ways might be used by the maoists for sneaking into India, security has been tightened up.
