Kochi, Sep 24 (UNI) Security was beefed up at the Nedumbaserry Airport near here today following a bomb hoax, officials said.
Cochin International Airport Ltd Managing Director Sreeram Bharat said the CISF had intensified its surveillance in the baggage checking, access centre and other areas of the airport.
Police had also tightened its surveillance on the city-side of the airport. Parameter patrolling and vehicle checking also had been stepped up, he said.
Earlier, an anonymous phone call was received at a fire station in Ernakulam about a bomb being planted at the airport.
The police control room alerted the airport authorities about the call, following which the airport's bomb detection and disposal squad and the dog squad carried out a thorough check of the entire air-side and city-side of the domestic and international passenger terminals, cargo terminals and the airline offices and other buildings.
However, no explosive was found in the search, Mr Bharat said.
Following the incident, an emergency meeting of the airport bomb threat review committee was held and it was decided to step up the security arrangements.
Meanwhile, the police traced the mobile phone number from which the call was made and action was being initiated against the caller under the IPC and the Indian Airport Rules, Mr Bharat said.
