New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) The Railways has so far issued over 28,000 cards to the train passengers under the Scheme Of Frequent Travellers (SOFT), aimed at giving incentives to those who travel frequently by train.
SOFT was launched by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) in collaboration with SBI in February 2006 to improve the patronisation of higher classes, where occupancy level is relatively low as compared to that in sleeper class and AC 3-tier classes.
The scheme is applicable to 1st AC, 2nd AC and AC Chair Car.
A passenger, who travels frequently by trains, has to get himself registered on payment of first year membership fee of Rs. 500 after which a card is issued.
The card has to be renewed every year on payment of an annual fee of Rs. 300. The passenger gets a complimentary train trip after certain numbers of reward points are accumulated.
''The Railways has already issued over 28,000 cards under the scheme since its launch a year ago. It shows its popularity among the passengers,'' a ministry official said.
