New Delhi, Sep 24: Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav today said the appointment of Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi as the Congress General Secretary indicated that that party was ''dependent on one family (Nehru-Gandhi) for its survival''.
''The Congress is like a tamboo dependent on one bamboo for its support while the NDA is like a tent (which has various pillars of support),'' Mr Yadav told reporters when asked about his reaction to the appointment of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son.
He said he had seen many such appointments right from Ms Indira Gandhi to Rajiv Gandhi and now to now Mr Rahul Gandhi. So, it was a long standing tradition for the Congress.
Meanwhile, the JD(U) leader reiterated that the Ram Sethu issue was a ''non-issue'' for his party. He said issues like poverty, unemployment, SEZs which affected the lives of common people were instead more important for the party.
He refused to comment on the DMK workers attacking the JD(U) and BJP headquarters in Chennai and said whatever he would say it would only give weightage to the issue which he was not in favour of.
