Pranab in NY for UN Gen Assy session

has
arrived
in
New
York
to
lead
the
Indian
delegation
to
the
62nd
UN
General
Assembly
session.
Mr Mukherjee arrived in New York yesterday.
Among his various engagements in the world body and the city are his address to the General Assembly scheduled for October one, formal inauguration of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which is being organised for the first time outside India and several bilateral meetings.
For the second year in a row, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not attending the UN session. But this year, Congress party President Sonia Gandhi, who is also the head of the ruling coalition at the Centre, will also represent India at the global body.
Ms Gandhi is expected to arrive on September 30.
