Kathmandu, Sep 24: The unification of the Nepali Congress(NC) and Nepali Congress-Democratic(NC-D) is likely to take place today.
Prime Minister and NC President Girija Prasad Koirala has agreed to the NC-D proposal on unification, Kantipur newspaper quoted sources as saying.
The unification deal is most likely to be signed by Mr Koirala and NC-D President Sher Bahadur Deuba Koirala after a meeting later in the day.
The NC Maha Samiti meeting on its second day today has not yet begun in the wake of the NC-D leadership urging for unification.
The Maha Samiti meeting which began yesterday at NC headquarters Sanepa, Lalitpur is likely to be put off and a fresh meeting to be called by the unified Congress, the sources added.
Last morning, four Nepali Congress (Democratic) leaders Chiranjivi Wagle, Bijay Gachchhedar, Bal Bahadur KC and Narayan Khadka urged Mr Koirala to take immediate initiative for unification and holding a joint meeting of the Mahasamiti.
NC-D was formed about five years ago after some NC leaders decided to split from the mother party - the Nepali Congress. Over the years, the unification issue has been taken up a number of times.
