MNIIT event sees maiden international participation

one
of
the
premier
technology
institutes
of
the
country,
has
added
'first'
to
its
credit
with
participation
of
international
students
from
the
South
Asian
Association
for
Regional
Cooperation
(SAARC)
and
other
Asian
countries
in
its
most
coveted
national
level
technical
festival
'Avishkar
2007.'
Avishkar-2007, the event, always looked upon by the budding technocrats as the occasion to incorporate ideas and innovate in the field of technological excellence, has attracted, for the first time, the students from Nepal, Bangladesh and South Korea rubbing shoulders with the best indian talents from IITs and other institutes.
It was the first successful attempt to turn this traditional technology festival into an inetrantional event, Prof Rakesh Narayan, the Dean of Stdents Affairs, MNNIT told the sources here.
Besides receiving an encouraging response from students from abroad the participation of IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Guwahati, IIIT- Hyderabad , NSIT, IT-BHU, NIT Trichi, NIT Suratkal, GEC Bikaner, JSS Noida and UCER enriched the various technological aspects displayed at recently concluded Avishkar-2007 at MNNIT, Allahabad.
Avishkar-2007, an extravaganza of academics and cultural activities, has been a perfect tool to give direction for developing new technologies and promoting innovative ideas.
Some of the major events which inlcluded Robomania , Livewire , Insomnia, Pentathlon, Survivor series, Webster, Open hardware, Virtual Millionaire, Kreedomania, Qtopia, biogenesis had a stupendous response from the participants-many of these having been organsied for the first time in MNNIT, said media co-ordinator Pawan Kesarwani.
The highlights of the fest were Robocup where various team were engaged in adrenaline pumping tangle of mechanical maneuvering robots win a simple game cricket.
Another unique programme being the International Open Programming Contest(IOPC), an online programming event using languages like C++ or Java to solve a set of predefined problems. This being a real time event had its own grip of Dynamic coding and debugging lovers.
This featured on the site www.topcoders.com an online community for such international events. The prize money of the event was USD 500.
Eminent acamedicians like CVR Murthy (IIT-K), M N Munjal, Shanti Sundram Negi, HS Pannu etc. drawn from prestigious institutes of India delivered the lectures. This year Avishkar was the first to ensure ionvolvement of students from the first years as a number of workshops were organised for them just to prepare them for the event.
The reputed companies like TCS, IBM, CTS, Aricent, ONMOBILE, BSNL and IMS also participated in the vent whcih has assumed the importance of being one of its kind technology festivals of the country.
