Jabalpur, Sep 24 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today said a newspaper that enjoyed integrity had the power to bring political rivals on one platform.
Mr Singh, while inaugurating Jabalpur edition of Hindi daily 'Nai Dunia' here, said ruling party and opposition members should respect each other despite ideological differences so that a healthy democracy developed in the country.
He said he first came to know about 'Nai Dunia' newspaper when he came to Indore about 26 years back. The Jabalpur edition was the sixth edition of the newspaper.
Mr Singh expressed hope that the newspaper would make significant contribution in society by coming up to expectation of people in Jabalpur and Mahakaushal.
He said journalists like Lokmanya Tilak and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi had brought ideological revolution during independence struggle. Newspaper played an important role in mobilising public opinion.
However, he said, impartiality of media especially electronic channel had come under scanner at present.
Pointing out that reliability on print media had not dwindled despite increase in number of news channels, he said democracy could be strengthened if media, judiciary, executive and legislature did not cross limits.
Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Union Minister Suresh Pachouri and Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh were among others present.
