Mamata demands CBI probe into Rizwan's death
Kolkata, Sep 24 (UNI) Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today met West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi and demanded a CBI inquiry into the ''mysterious'' death of Rizwan Rehman, whose body was found on the railway track near Dum Dum on September 21.
Rizwan's brother alleged that noted city businessmen Ashok Todi masterminded the murder as his daughter Priyanka had married Rizwan against his wishes.
Talking to newspersons here, Ms Banerjee said, '' The CID inquiry will not be able to trace out the culprits. I have met the Governor and demanded a CBI probe into the incident. '' She wondered how police described it as a case of suicide before receiving the post-mortem report.
Ms Banerjee asserted that the death of Rizwan bore an ample testimony to the fact that ''state-sponsored terrorism'' was continuing in the state.
The administration was trying to safeguard the ruling party, she alleged and said, '' Both are made for each other. '' '' We feel that it is a well-planned murder and the investigation should be neutral and the government should mete out exemplary punishment to the culprits, '' she stated.
The party leader appealed to the people to protest the incident.
