Dalit Sena protests fatwa against Karunanidhi

Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) Tamil Nadu unit of the Dalit Sena today hanged an effigy of former BJP MP and VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti for issuing a 'fatwa' against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his critical remarks against Lord Ram.

The agitation, held in front of the statue of rationalist leader Periyar E V Ramasamy on the arterial Anna Road, was led by Dalit Sena State President A M Palaanimuthu.

Speaking on the occasion, he condemned the fatwa and demanded the arrest of Mr Vedanti for issuing an open threat to Mr Karunanidhi.

Urging the Union Government to take a serious view of the fatwa, he demanded that the Centre take immediate steps to ban organisations like the VHP and the Bajrang Dal, which were trying to disturb peace in the country by issing such fatwas.

Later, Mr Palaanimuthu and his supporters shouted slogans, denouncing the BJP, VHP and the Bajrang Dal, and burnt the effigy of Mr Vedanti.
