Port Blair, Sep 24 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar administration Chief Secretary Chhering Targay has assured that the administration will participate enthusiastically in the five-day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign (PIC) scheduled to be held on November 3.
Official sources said here today that Mr Targay urged the Centre as well as all the development departments of the union territory administration, including defence establishments, public sector organisations and self-help groups, to put up their stalls for the PIC to be organised at Rangat, a village in Middle Andaman.
Conceptualised by the Prime Minister's Secretariat and implemented by the media units of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, with the Press Information Bureau (PIB) being the nodal agency, the Bharat Nirman PIC had been included in the 11th Five Year Plan.
Media and Communications Officer of the PIB O N Jaiswal told UNI that during the current fiscal, PICs were being organised at 100 places throughout the country.
A meeting of heads of various departments and other agencies was held here recently during which the chief secretary urged the participants to do their best to inform and educate the rural people about various flagship programmes of the UPA government so that they could fully benefit from the welfare schemes.
Mr Targay asked the Andaman PWD to construct the required number of stalls as well as a temporary stage for cultural programmes at the Rangat Stadium ground.
He urged all the departments and agencies, which had participated in the Wimberleygunj Public Information Campaign last year, to contribute at the Rangat PIC.
''The commendable help and support from the Andaman and Nicobar administration and the media had gone a long way in making the PIC a roaring success last year which also received appreciation from the Centre,'' Mr Jaiswal said.
He described the Wimberlygunj PIC as one of the best in the country and hoped that the Rangat PIC would be an even greater success.
