New Delhi, Sep 24: Terming the action against four Mid Day journalists as ''judicial terrorism'', Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today demanded an independent inquiry into the act of corruption by the former Chief Justice of India Y K Sabharwal.
Mr Yadav told mediapersons here that the Delhi High Court order granting three months imprisonment to the journalists was ''misuse of contempt proceedings to hide the truth'' and ''judicial corruption.'' The JD(U) President demanded that the Supreme Court should investigate the matter through an independent agency or mechanism or ask the government to get the matter probed by CBI.
He said that in a democracy, all the institutions, be it executive or legislature was accountable and only judiciary was trying to avoid. Mr Yadav said that he was not against contempt proceedings totally as they were necessary to enforce court orders and prevent people from misbehaving in the court of law but the Mid Day case was misuse of the process.
Pointing out that he himself had given a notice to the Lok Sabha Speaker for taking up the matter of corruption against the former Chief Justice but it could not be taken up and he had even asked a question regarding it, Mr Yadav asserted he would again take up the matter in Parliament as he also had all the facts regarding the case with him.
''Delhi was getting ruined in the name of sealing and the sons of the then Chief Justice became millionaire during the time,'' he said and added that now attempts have been made to hide this act of ''judicial corruption in the name of contempt of court.'' Moreover, media which brought out the corruption issue to the forefront was being muzzled which was very serious, he said.
