Singh, Gujjar enter final round of qualifying matches

Mumbai, Sep 23 (UNI) Navdeep Singh stormed into the third round of the qualifying matches for the main draw of the USD 416,000 Kingfisher Open ATP tennis tourney at the CCI hard courts here today.

Singh defeated the second seed Lars Burgsmuller of Germany in the qualifying draw in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Another Indian reaching the final qualifying round was Rohan Gujjar who defeated Vijay Kannan also in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

However, Akash Wagh who had got a wild card for the main draw last year lost in the second round going down to Davide Sanguinetti of Italy in a tough three setter. Sanguinetti won 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Also making the final round of qualifying was Leos Friedl who beat Viveek Shooken in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Three second round qualifying matches had to be postponed till tomorrow, following rains in the evening with Karan Rastogi leading countrymate Purav Raja 4-1 in the first set, Yuki Bhambri leading F Cermak 6-2, 3-4 and Ti Chen tied with Tushar Liberhan 2-2 in the first set.
