Seven persons injured in violent clash in Okhla

New Delhi, Sept 22 (UNI)Seven persons, including four policemen, were injured today after a mob, protesting the alleged desecration of the religious book of a particular community, clashed with the police,sources said.

At around 1500 hrs policemen were moving the hawkers around the masjid in the Batla House area in Okhla when the religious book being sold by a hawker fell on the ground.

Shortly, a huge mob gathered in the area alleging that the policeman had kicked the Quran.The violent crowd torched the Jamia police post,as a result tear gas was used to disperse the mob.

The injured have been admitted in the near by hospitals.

Meanwhile fire brigade officials said"four service engine were sent to douse the flames at the police post,which was brought to control around 2030 hrs".

However,tension prevailed in the area,the sources added.
