Russia, US to conduct joint naval exercises from tomorrow

Moscow, Sep 23 (UNI) Two US Navy combat ships will arrive tomorrow at Russia's Vladivostok port to participate in the joint manoeuvers with the Russian Navy.

The exercise Pacific Eagle-2007 will be held from September 28-30 and will include mine-sweeping and anti-submarine operations, an interception of a vessel trespassing territorial waters and a sea-rescue operation, Russian Pacific Fleet's spokesman told RIA Novosti news agency.

''This is the third meeting of the Russian and American sailors this year, which has two goals - further development of naval cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and the joint naval exercises Pacific Eagle-2007,'' he said.

The US Navy has dispatched an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Lassen (DDG 82) and a minesweeper USS Patriot (MCM 7) to participate in the manoeuvers.Russia is represented by an Udaloy-class destroyer Admiral Panteleyev.
