Kathmandu, Sept 23 (UNI) Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress began here today which is expected to approve the party's decision of making the Himalayan kingdom a republic.
Prime minister and President of the Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala inaguarated the two-day meeting which is expected to embrace federal, democratic and republic as party's policy.
''The Nepali Congress was all set to adopt a policy of democratic republic,'' The Himalayan Times quoted Koirala as saying this morning.
Mr Koirala also asked the party leaders to go unitedly for holding the constituent assembly elections on time.
Meanwhile, a groups breakaway faction of the Nepali Congress met Koirala and requested him to unify the party as early as possible.
Sher Bahaudr Deuba had split the party after the Nepali Congress decided not to extend the emergency, giving enough power to then Royal Nepal army to crush the Maoists insurgency five years ago.
