Name of martyrs to be displayed at native place

Chandigarh, Sep 23 (UNI) Haryana Governor Dr. A R Kidwai said that the list of the names of those martyrs who had sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle of India should be put at prominent places of their respective villages, so that our young generation could get inspiration from their spirit of patriotism and sacrifice shown during the National Freedom Movement.

Dr Kidwai was addressing a gathering at Roa Tula Ram Stadium at Rewari on the occasion of celebrating the 150th Anniversary of 1857 First War of India's Independance and Roa Tula Ram Birth Anniversary as Haryana Veer and Shahidi Diwas.

He said that the statues of martyrs who had laid down their lives for their country should be installed in their native villages.

He said that the it is a matter of great pride that maximum soldiers in the Indian Defence Forces hailed from Haryana. They have shown immense bravery and courage while safeguarding the Indian frontiers.

On this occasion the Union Minister of State for Defence Production, Roa Inderjit Singh who belongs to Roa Tula Ram leneage, said that during the Indian freedom struggle and in different wars after independence, warriors of Haryana especially from southern Haryana had always played a significant role.

He said that maximum gallantry award recipients belonged to this part of Haryana. He said that in 1947 war, first Param Vir Chakra awardee was Major Somnath, who was from this area.

On demands put by Roa Inderjit Singh for opening of a Sainik School and a Central University in southern Haryana, Mr Kidwai said that the area from where maximum number of soldiers hail should have a right to have Sainik School and on the demand of Central University he assured all possible help in the matter.
