Local youths clash with Army troops in Reasi

Jammu, sep 23 (UNI) Troops of Territorial Army (TA) last night clashed with local youths, allegedly after the former passed lewd remarks on a woman, in Pouni area of Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, police sources today said.

The clash started after some jawans of 157 TA battalion misbehaved with a local and her brother, who were on the way in their personal vehicle, police said.

''The TA jawans, who were to join their place of posting somewhere at nearby Bharakh area, resorted to misbehaving after they were refused lift by the locals,'' sources said.

Irked by the behaviour of jawans, some local youths reached Bharakh where some other TA jawans also joined their colleagues and came to blows, police said, adding that the four-wheeler of the locals was also damaged in the melee.

However, a senior army officer today intervened and persuaded the local youths for a patch up with an assurance that strong action will be taken against those errant jawans, police said.
