Srinagar, Sep 23 (UNI) To become surplus in power generation, Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to give 51 new small Hydro Electric Projects (HEP) with a total generation of 330 MWs to private sector.
The step aims at fast development of Hydel potential in the state for speedy percolation of power benefits to people, Minister for power Nawang Rigzin Jora said.
He said government is working to make power sector as one of the prime resources of the state for which special focus has been given on speedy completion of mega, micro and mini hydel power projects in the state.
Chairing a high level meeting called to review the private participation in power sector, he said it has been decided to give 51 new small hydro electric power projects totaling 330 MWs to private sector.
However, these will be allotted through a transparent competitive bidding, he said.
As many as 28 new projects have so far been offered to private sector, the meeting was told. Of this ten have already been allotted while 19 projects are in the pipe line.
