New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) ''Believe in yourself, you have done extremely well and I am sure you can do it again (in the final against Pakistan),'' says Chairman of selector Dilip Vengsarkar in his message to Team India.
Speaking to UNI by phone, Vengsarkar congratulated Team India for their stellar performance in beating mighty Australians by 15 runs last night. Vengsarkar said, ''It was just a fantastic win.'' The 51-year-old heaped rich praise on the fearless captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. ''He has done a very good job. I think he has all the qualities of a good captain and he is doing a good job.'' On Yuvraj Singh's scintillating performance, he said, ''I knew he has a tremendous potential as a batsman since his under-15 days, because he use to be at my Elf Vengsarkar Academy. For three years he was there.'' ''And in this tournament, he has batted excellently well,'' he added.
On the newly formed Indian bowling attack, he said, ''R P Singh has been improving with each and every outing. Sree Santh really bowled extremely well. Even Harbhajan (Singh) and Joginder (Sharma) did a very good job.'' On the fast improving standards of Indian fielding, he said, ''Indian fielding has improved a lot and that is what matters in Twenty20.'' ''Fielding, bowling, batting and running between the wickets, these are the facts which play a very important role.'' Pointing out that BCCI's decision to give youngsters a chance to prove their mettle, has been proved right by the performance of this young Indian team.
The former Indian captain lauding all the young members of the team said, ''They have played extremelly well, to be in the finals.
To start as the hot favourites to win the final, they have performed extremelly well.'' Indian team will take on arch rivals Pakistan in the final of the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup at Johannesburg tomorrow.
When asked about India's chances ahead of on-the-edge-of-the-seat encounter, Vengsarkar said, ''They (Pakistan) have got tremendous all round depth in their side, but we should be able to win this game.
On who he thinks will be the key player from the two teams in the final, he said, ''It's very difficult to say who will be the key player because in Twenty20 everybody has to chip in. Every over plays an important role.'' ''But the Indian team has the momentum and they should be able to win it,'' he added.
When quizzed about the strategy for Indian team in the much awaited final, 'Colonel' said, ''(They need to follow) the same strategy they had against South Africa and Australia.'' UNI
