Vijayawada, Sep 23 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners Association (APLOA) today demanded that the Centre should withdraw its proposal to renew the licences of lorry drivers every year.

Addressing a press conference here, APLOA General Secretary K Eswara Rao alleged that the Centre was planning to generate more revenue by implementing such a proposal, which caused financial hardship to thousands of drivers.

''The private transport sector is already facing lot of hardships due to certain government policies. The recent proposal, if implemented, will affect several drivers,'' he said.

Mr Rao urged the government to consult All India Motor Transport Association and other related associations before taking any decisions on the sector.

The APLOA would launch massive agitations if the government failed to withdraw the proposal, he added.
