Mumbai, Sep 22 (UNI) Nationaist Congress Party chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said he was not interested in contesting the Lok Sabha elections and would rather become a Rajya Sabha member.
''I am not willing to contest the Lok Sabha elections and would prefer to be a Rajya Sabha member. But, it is for the NCP state unit to decide,'' Mr Pawar told newspersons here.
Mr Pawar had earlier also hinted that he was not interested in contesting the Lok Sabha elections and wished to be a Rajya Sabha member.
Mr Pawar, who started his political career in 1967 after getting elected from the Baramati assembly constituency, remained associated with the state politics till 1996 before getting elected to the Lok Sabha.
His daughter Supriya Sule is now a Rajya Sabha member while his nephew Ajit Pawar is the Maharashtra Water Resources Minister.
According to political sources, if Mr Pawar does not contest the Lok Sabha elections, Ms Sule would be the obvious choice.
