Addressing a press conference here he said the political parties should refrain from ''policies of appeasement'' and evolve a common political platform to combat terrorism.

Stating that the menace of terrorism could not be bridled without a political consensus on its supression, Mr Bitta said ''The current dispensation should emulate the anti-terrorist policies adopted by former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao.

He said anti-terrorist military court should be set up to tackle the upsurge in terrorism and subversive activities. Strict regulations on issuing visas was the need of the hour, he added.
