Imphal, Sep 22 (UNI) Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh left for the US today to attend a presentation on investment opportunities in Manipur at the first session of the one-day North East India Investment Conference to be held on September 26.
Manipur Information Centre Joint Director Meghachandra Kongbam said here that the conference, organised jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Ministry at New York, will coincide with the four-day ''India @ 60'' event commencing from September 23.
Urban Development Secretary P K Singh, who is accompanying the Chief Minister, will present his address on Infrastructure in Manipur at the second session of the conference, Mr Kongbam added.
Other points which will be discussed in the conference include Agro and Food Industries, Information Technology and Tourism.
Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia will inaugurate the conference as chief guest.
CII Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal will give a special address, CII-North East Council Chairman Dipankar Chatterji will give the welcome address and DoNER Secretary Dr Sushma Singh will present the concluding remarks at the inaugural session.
The conference will be attended by the Chief Ministers, ministers and other important officials of the North Eastern States.
Officers from the DoNER Ministry, Power Ministry, Road Transport and Highways department, Information Technology, Food Processing Industries, government agencies and corporate industries will also participate in the conference.
The DoNER has been organising such events to highlight the strengths of North East India and targetting entrepreneurs to invest in high potential sectors like tourism, food and agro industries, infrastructure, minerals, IT and communications and handicrafts sector for socio-economic development of the region.
