Ranchi, Sep 22 (UNI) A high-level Central team, led by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar, will visit Northeastern states after Chhattisgarh to make an on-the-spot assessment of the states.

The team, which today held a review of various state departments, told reporters here that similar excercises would soon be carried out in those states facing ''special problems''.

Asked to elaborate on 'special problems', he said Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh were relatively new states and hence, deserved special attention.

Referring to North Eastern states, the Cabinet Secretary said they were insurgency-hit.

'' We will go there to see how development takes place there, '' he said.

He admitted that the NE region was lacking in infrastructure development and lot of things needed to be done there.

Mr Chandrashekhar made it clear that the emphasis on Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and NE region did not necessarily mean that other states were being ignored.

''The Centre takes care of all states but special attention is aimed at reducing the gap between rich and poor regions,'' he added.
