Haryana State Women's Sports meet gets under way

Chandigarh, Sep 22 (UNI) The 21st Haryana State Women's Sports Festival began at the Sports Complex, Panchkula near here today.

As many as 2300 sportspersons are participating in the three days event. Haryana Chief Secretary Promila Issar inaugurated the sports meet by unfurling the flag and took the salute from a march past of the sports women of all the 20 districts of the state participating in the sports festival.

Speaking on this occasion, Ms Promila Issar said that Haryana had made rapid strides in sports thanks to several measures taken by the government to promote sports.

She said the great confidence being exhibited by the sports women participating in this festival was a clear indication that in the coming few years sportsmen and women of Haryana would certainly make their mark at the national as well as international level. Commissioner and Secretary (Sports and Youth Affairs) Sarban Singh, Sports and Youth Affairs Director Sudhir Mohan and Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Kataria also spoke on the occasion.

On the opening day, Sunita of Hisar bagged the first position in the 800 metre race while Sakshi and Anju of Sonepat got the second and third positions respectively.
