Govt will provide house to SC/ST families: Achuthanandan

Kannur, Sep 22 (UNI) The policy of the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala was to provide houses to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes families in the state, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said today.

Distributing title deeds to 1,717 adivasi families at Aralam farm in the district, he said 1,000 houses would be constructed for them in the first phase.

Every family would get one acre of land, he said, adding that of the 1,717 beneficiaries, 474 were landless.

Pointing out that 22,482 adivasi's did not possess any land, the Chief Minister said the government had already distributed land to 25,000 families and steps would be taken to provide land to all the landless tribals during the LDF regime.

State SC/ST Minister A K Balan, presiding over the function in which Ministers Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, P K Sreemathy and K P Rajendran participated, said Rs one lakh each would be given to those, who received land for constructing houses.

The government was planning to launch employment-oriented schemes for them, he said.
