Exhibition, rally mark birth centenary celebrations

Amritsar, Sept 22 (UNI) Punjab Minister For Health and Family Welfare Laxmi Kanta Chawla today inaugurated an exhibition in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh at Virsa Vihar Centre here today.

The Exhibition is displaying major events in the life of Shaeed Bhagat Singh and the Indian freedom struggle through pictures, hand written letters and other articles.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the country won its freedom only due to the sacrifices of martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru, Lala Lajpat Rai and other freedom fighters.

She appealed to the youth to work in the direction and thoughts given by Saheed Bhagat Singh to make India a world power.

In another event dedicated to the birth centenary of the martyr, here today, Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon flagged off a patriotic ''Youth Awareness Rally'' from Company Bagh to Historic Jallianwala Bagh.

Former National Athlete (Sports Officer), Inderjit Singh Bajwa led the patriotic rally by carrying a Mashal (Torch). Young boys donning saffron Turbans in Bhagat Singh style, wearing caps like Sukhdev and Rajguru was the highlight of the event.
