Bhubaneswar, Sep 22: Torrential rains caused by a depression over North West Bay of Bengal lashed most parts of coastal Orissa for the third day today affecting life at many places.
Met sources said on September 21 that well marked low pressure area over West Central Bay and adjoining North West Bay of Bengal off South Orissa-North Andra Pradesh coast concentrated into a depression and lay centred close to south east of Puri.
The system is likely to intensify further and move in a north westerly direction and cross Orissa coast between Gopalpur and Paradeep this afternoon.
Under its impact, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at a few places over Orissa during next 48 hours. The authority had already hoisted the local cautionary signal number three at all the ports in the state.
Strong and gusty surface wind from north-easterly direction with speed reaching 45-55 kmph to 65 kmph were likely to prevail along and off Orissa coast during the period. The fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea.
